How Overshield Works in Fortnite - New Mechanics Explained
While we never thought we'd see it, Chapter 2 Season 3 removed the building mechanic, meaning you'll need to use Overshields. Here's what they are, how they work, and how to get them.
The most distinctive feature of Fortnite, naturally we mean building and editing, is being replaced by one of the most significant additions to the royal battle so far: the Overshield.
Let's take a closer look at how the new shields work in Season 2.
How does Overshield work? How to get it
The Overshield grants the player additional 50% protection and you get it at the start of the game, creating a scenario where players can have up to 250 combined health and shields over the course of a match.
Overshield works just like the game's regular shield in that it takes damage before you lose any of your health bars.
However, Overshield takes no damage from storms, and you'll only damage your health if you manage to get stuck in the purple haze.
Can you replenish your Overshield?
Starting from Chapter 2 of Season 3, you cannot find any items in the game that will replenish your Overshield if it is damaged to you.
Well, there is a special reason for this. You see, your shield naturally "recharges" when you're not in a firefight for at least 5-10 seconds.
So you can loot "avoid battle" in your game plan for the foreseeable future, as there are now perks to hide in the bushes for a breather.
What else has changed?
Along with the Overshield, Epic has reworked other mechanics to compensate for the loss of the player's ability to build.
Players have faster running speed, higher jumping abilities, and the ability to manipulate objects all over the battlefield.
When will construction return to Fortnite?
At the moment we know that the construction mechanic should be back in Fortnite by March 29th.
But we don't know if the Overshield will remain in the game after the return of the feature, or if Epic Games will keep the concept in its entirety.
Either way, players can start playing the game with 50% less health as we get closer to the end of March to get used to playing without the potentially short-lived concept.
