Fortnite players will be able to get a free Throwback pickaxe before the game moves to Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5. Here's how.
Like many other game developers and publishers, Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite will move to the next generation when Xbox Series X | S and PS5 launch in November.
The Battle Royale developers have already shown off some of the graphical changes they will be making, but as we get closer, fans can also get their hands on a bit of Fortnite history.
A free Throwback Ax 'OG' Pickaxe will be available shortly before next-gen consoles launch, and here's how you can get it.
How to Get a Free OG Throwback Pickaxe from Fortnite
As the name suggests, the return pickaxe will be just that - a reference to Fortnite Chapter 1 and the original pickaxe that players used in the beginning.
It might not be the most extravagant pickaxe, but it's something every OG player will remember, and making it part of your locker is just a way to remember what the game was like before the big jump to the next generation.
It will be pretty easy to get your hands on it. Epic announced that it will be available in the in-game store and the PlayStation store from November 4, so you just need to download the pack to get it before January 15, 2021.
- Starting November 4th, head to the Fortnite Item Shop / PlayStation.
- Click on the OG Throwback pickaxe.
- Click to buy and accept
- Wait for the payment to go through
- The pickaxe will be in the storage locker!
Fortnite changes for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S
In addition, Epic also revealed how they will take advantage of the new consoles once they launch in mid-November.
Apart from the previously announced graphical changes, loading times will also be improved thanks to the new hardware. PlayStation 5 owners will also be able to set their favorite Fortnite game mode on the home screen so they can jump right into it instead of having to scroll through the entire menu.
In addition to this, the progress you've already made on your account will also carry over to the next generation, presumably through your Epic Games account.
