Although you can level up in Genshin Impact, completing tasks and killing bosses and mobs is not a panacea. You still need to take into account various items for leveling up and increasing experience, which will contribute to the growth of the traveler. Genshin Impact : Level Up and Experience Guide
First, leveling up your characters is very different from leveling up your adventure rank. While some of the concepts are similar, the latter should help push the story further and provide more quests. In any case, to level up your characters, you are mainly looking at killing mobs and completing quests. Likewise, there are several kinds of items to level up, and the most notable are books of experience (also known as experience boost). Examples include:-

Genshin Impact Character Experience
Character Experience used by characters to level up. It is mainly obtained using character experience materials. Killing enemies while exploring the open world gives very little. Obtaining earth artery colors from bosses also grants some character experience.
Character XP gained from completing quests, defeating enemies, and earning boss rewards is given to every member of your party, regardless of participation. Dead party members will still gain character experience. Characters not in your active party will not gain character experience.
Using character experience materials costs 1 mora for every 5 character experience points.
Character experience is actually very valuable. If you're familiar with microtransactions, you'll be aware that the Traveler's Supply Pack gives you 50 of them. However, keep in mind that this set costs 980 crystals, the premium currency Genshin impact .
Note: you also need to pay in gold for each level using these booklets. In addition, every new character you receive in Genshin Impact, starts at level 1, no matter how powerful he might have been as long as he was just a "probationary" member of your party. So you will need 7x Hero XP for them to reach level 20, which is the first hurdle.
Rise and Talents
When a character reaches level 20, you will need to complete their Ascension. This will require a few materials collected from your adventures. Some, however, can be easily purchased at gift shop (I'll come back to this in a while). In any case, after completing the first ascent, you will unlock the character's talent. In fact, this is an increase in one of the skills they have.
Completing Ascension also increases that character's level cap to 40. It requires hundreds of thousands of experience - or 29 Wit Heroes and 116 gold if you want a shortcut. From here, you'll need materials for another Ascension/talent and a level cap increase. It's like climbing a mountain called Mount Microtransaction.
Gift shop
A souvenir shop can be found in the main centers (eg Mondstadt and Liyue harbor). Just find an NPC with a diamond icon.
The currency used by the shop in Mondstadt is Sigil Anemo. Meanwhile, the one in Liyue Harbor is using geosigils. These sigils can be found by simply traveling through your zones as random drops from enemy kills, chests, completed challenges, quests, etc.
In any case, the Souvenir Shop sells several Ascension leveling materials such as Agnidus Agate Sliver and Vajrada Amethyst Sliver. It also has weapons/crafting materials.
However, some goals you can set for yourself are materials that activate Constellations for your Traveler/Protagonist. The one in Mondstadt has a Constellation unlock for your Anemo (wind) Traveler, and the one in Liyue Harbor has an unlock for the protagonist Geo (land).
