There are plenty of vending machines located throughout the Fortnite map, giving players the option to spend their hard-earned gold bars on weapons or healing items, but malfunctioning vending machines are something else entirely.
Instead of offering you multiple items to choose from, malfunctioning vending machines will sell you a random item. It can be a very rare weapon that will help you win, or it can be something completely useless, depending on your luck.

Where to find broken vending machines in Fortnite
Malfunctioning vending machines spawn randomly in Fortnite, which means you'll need to search as many regular vending machines as you can until you find one that's... well, broken.
You'll know you've found it because it will display a red screen with an exclamation mark instead of the usual blue screen or friendly creature.
The best advice we can give is to land in an area with lots of vending machines like Sawmill or plumb crossroads, and then grab a car and drive past all the vending machines in the area.
Vending machines are not marked on the island's large map, but they will show up on the in-game mini-map (the one that appears in the upper right corner of the screen) when they are nearby.

Any of these vending machines may be a faulty vending machine. Once you find it, simply purchase the item and the quest will complete.
After a long search, we finally found a faulty vending machine in The Daily Bugle, close to the ground floor of the main building, so this might be a good place to start your search.
