What is the Chosen Mechanic in TFT Destiny? Warlord, Sublunar and Cultists

Teamfight Tactics

First it was elemental rifts in Rise of the Elements. Then there were the Galaxies in Set 3. However, for the first time in Teamfight Tactics, the "mechanic" of the set, called the Chosen Ones, will revolve around the units themselves , not the board.

Teamfight Tactics

The time has come! It's time to say goodbye to Galaxies and welcome a new set: Fates. We will talk about champions and some of the features of the Fates, as well as new mechanics.

Mechanics of the "Fates" - favorites

In Fates, one of the key ways to outmaneuver your opponent is to get the right champion choice for your team. Here's how it works.

From time to time, a featured champion will appear in the shop. These champions have 2 stars at once, so they cost three times more than 1-star versions. In addition, they have additional bonuses.

  • One of the traits (faction or class) is chosen, which means it counts as two.
  • Increased health by 200 and gain one of the following: +500 Health, +35% Ability Power, +50 Attack Damage, or -25% Mana Cost (Total numbers may vary.)

For example, consider Garen's favorite in the shop. His chosen trait is vanguard (any trait can be chosen). If you purchase this Garen, you will immediately receive its 2-star version with 700 additional health. It counts as two vanguards, which means it already provides the trait bonus on its own. In addition, it will be easier for you to get a 4-part bonus!

Once you purchase a Featured Champion, other Featured Heroes will be removed from your store. You can only have one favorite at a time! If you sell such a champion, other favorites will begin to appear in the store again. You will be faced with a difficult choice: acquire your favorites early on and immediately outline the direction of development or wait for a convenient basis for your composition. Take your time and buy a 4-5 gold favorite who will benefit more from the extra stats, or stick with a 2-3 gold champion with a useful support feature?

Keep in mind that you won't be able to purchase the desired favorites in every game. Getting a specific champion is no longer easy, and acquiring that fighter with the desired Feature Trait is next to impossible. Therefore, you will have to carefully weigh your options and decide how best to develop the team based on what you have.

Now let's look at some new compositions.

Commander

For those trying out the set for the first time, Warlord Synergy is a good starting point. It is important for these champions to defeat their opponents, because each triumph comes with a buff.

When you activate Warlord Synergy, champions with this trait gain some health and ability power for each previous victory they participated in (even if the synergy was not yet active at that time), и all subsequent victories. This effect stacks up to 5 times. This means that the more often you send these champions into battle, the stronger they become. Now in more detail:

  • ➤Commanders additionally receive:
    • ➤(3) 150 health and 10 ability power
    • ➤(6) 400 health and 25 ability power
    • ➤(9) 600 health and 50 ability power
  • For each victory in combat, they gain additional health and ability power (the effect stacks up to 5 times):
    • ➤(3) 30 health and 3 ability power
    • ➤(6) 40 health and 5 ability power
    • ➤(9) 80 health and 10 ability power

FATES_Article_Warlords_v2.jpg

Possible composition at level 7: 6 commanders, 2 assassins, 2 paragons, 1 ninja

  • ➤Nidali (1 gold - commander, eagle eye)
  • ➤Garen (1gp - general, vanguard)
  • ➤Jarvan IV (2 gold - general, ideal)
  • ➤Pyke (2 gold - cultist, assassin)
  • ➤Katarina (3 gold - commander, assassin) (Featured Trait - Warlord)
  • ➤Kennen (3 gold - ninja, ideal)
  • ➤Xin Zhao (3 gold - commander, duelist)

In this composition, the role of the main carry is played by Katarina, a backline killer with explosive damage. Thanks to the two-piece assassins bonus, her skill will be able to deal critical damage (!), and the additional ability power from the warlords effect will make her even more powerful. This composition has everything you need for Katarina to live long and deal tons of damage: control from Pike and Kennen, a strong front line of generals and shields from ideals!

Sublunar

Sublunar is one of the more unusual features of the Fates set. It has new mechanics that you will surely like. Sublunar is a 3-part trait and all champions included in it cost 1-2 gold. This means that you can get a bonus at an early stage. The feature upgrades the lowest level fighter in the stars, giving them an extra star! (If there are multiple candidates, the buff from the trait goes to the fighter with the most items.) For example, if you have a 2-star Diana, a 2-star Lissandra, and a 1-star Silas, at the start of the fight, Silas also becomes 2-star! With this trait, you can get 3-star champions at the very beginning of the game.

And now the most important thing. What happens if you have 3 sublunar champions that already have 3 stars each? If you answered “I will get a 4-star champion”, then you are absolutely right.

FATES_Article_Moonlight_4_Star_v2.jpg

The Sublunar Trait allows you to reach new levels - for the first time in TFT, 4-star champions will appear. These are very powerful fighters who have high potential. Of course, they are not as strong as 3-star fighters for 4 gold, but they can still make enemies sweat!

FATES_Article_Moonlight_v2.jpg

Possible composition at level 6: 3 sublunar, 3 generals, 2 assassins, 2 brawlers, 2 brilliant

  • ➤Diana (1 gold - sublunar, assassin)
  • ➤ Lissandra (1 gold - sublunar, shining) (favorite feature - brilliant)
  • ➤Garen (1gp - general, vanguard)
  • ➤ Silas (2 gold - sublunar, brawler)
  • ➤Vai (2 gold - commander, brawler)
  • ➤Katarina (3 gold - commander, assassin)

With Sublunars, you can either quickly get a 2-star champion and keep playing, or take your time and add a 4-star fighter to your composition. In this example, the second approach is taken: the main carry here is Diana with a bayonet and a 2-piece killer bonus, making her skill deal massive damage. Lissandra acts as a support, which imposes the Morellonomicon effect on the front line and reduces the healing of enemies. Because of this, you can attack the enemy from both front and rear.

Sectarians

Cultists are another main faction of the Fates. This is the biggest feature: 8 champions belong to cultists at once! Interestingly, the bonus of this faction does not strengthen the fighters themselves. Instead, the cultists are summoning Demon Lord Galio! The more cultists on the field, the stronger Galio.

  • ➤(3): Tyrant Galio
  • ➤(6): Demon Lord Galio
  • ➤(9): High Overlord Galio

FATES_Article_Cultist_Galio_v2.jpg

With each level, the performance and effectiveness of Galio's skills increase significantly. Supreme Overlord Galio is a real monster with over 7000 health and 600 attack power! But even the Tyrant Galio excels in the front lane, with 1800 health and a massive stun that can turn the tide of a fight.

FATES_Article_Cultist_v2.jpg

Possible composition at level 7 - 6 cultists, 2 duelists, 2 vanguards

  • ➤Elise (1 gold - cultist, ideal)
  • ➤Twisted Fate (1 gold - cultist, mage)
  • ➤Pyke (2 gold - cultist, assassin)
  • ➤Thrash (2gp - Phantom Vanguard)
  • ➤Evelynn (3 gold - cultist, shadow)
  • ➤Kalista (3 gold - cultist, duelist) (Featured Trait - Duelist)
  • Aatrox (4gp - Cultist Vanguard)

The main carry of this composition is Calista. If you can activate the duelist trait, it will gain tremendous power, especially when combined with Guinsoo's Fury Blade and Statikk's Shiv. Also included in this composition is Aatrox, who pulls enemies together before Galio arrives with his massive area of effect slam. It's a good all-round composition, especially if you're facing a solid front line tank.

So far, that's all

This is just a small part of what awaits you in TFT: Fate. We hope you enjoy the other types of perks and champions in this set; The Fates will be coming to PBE very soon, so you can try them out for yourself!
