Norton 360 Antivirus Will Mining Crypto.
NortonLifeLock will soon roll out a feature for Norton 360 that is not commonly found in antivirus programs: a built-in miner that will allow users to mine Ethereum.
The company will begin rolling out this feature to select members of its early adopter program today, although it intends to make Norton Crypto available to all customers in the coming weeks.
The security company promotes the miner as a feature designed to "protect" the ever-changing digital lives of its "customers". Norton says that running miners usually requires disabling anti-virus software as security programs usually block them, but its own miner will obviously be able to run alongside its anti-virus product.
Norton Crypto uses the device's GPU to mine Ethereum, which users can then transfer to a wallet stored in the cloud to prevent accidental loss due to hardware failure. But, How notes BleepingComputer , Ethereum is quite difficult to mine, especially in recent months , so the efforts of users can be combined to have a better chance of mining a block. In this case, members would have to share their earnings, while Norton could get a small share.
Gagan Singh, Chief Product Officer of NortonLifeLock, said in a statement:
“We are proud to be the first consumer cybersecurity company to offer coin miners the ability to safely and easily turn downtime on their PCs into opportunities to earn digital currency. With Norton Crypto, our customers can mine cryptocurrency in just a few clicks, avoiding many barriers to entry into the cryptocurrency ecosystem.”
