Euro-2020
Euro-2020 - 16th European Football Championship. Despite its name, it will take place in 2021. The tournament was originally supposed to take place in the summer of 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, and UEFA decided to postpone Euro 2020 a year later, but retaining the original name.
The final tournament will be held from June 11 to July 11, 2021. For the first time in the history of continental championships among teams, matches will be played in 10 countries at once, including Russia (7 games will be hosted by St. Petersburg).
Initially, there was one more country, but the Irish authorities decided to refuse to host Euro 2020 in Dublin due to the difficult situation with COVID-19. Irish matches were eventually moved to St. Petersburg.
The wide geography of the European Championship is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the tournament. But, in addition to references to the past, the tournament will also pay tribute to modern trends: for the first time at the European Championship, a video referee assistance system (VAR) will be used.
The Euro 2020 final will take place on July 11 in London, and both semi-finals will also be held there (July 6 and 7).
In addition to the Russian national team, there will be one more representative of Russia at the tournament - the team of chief referee Sergei Karasev has been appointed and will play at least one match.
Most matches Euro-2020 will be held with the audience, but everywhere the occupancy of the stands will be no more than 50% of the possible.
The official slogan of the EURO 2020 is “Love IT. For Real", which can be translated as: "Live it. For real".
