I have never heard so much good about anything as about “Breathedge“. Everyone praises her - both bloggers and users. The game's ratings are very high. Even when I specifically looked for bad reviews, I only found two. I spent enough time in the game, somehow reached the middle of the second chapter, and I don’t have the slightest desire to play anymore.

Let me tell you about the good first.

Humor

In all Breathedge reviews, humor is discussed separately and it is not surprising - the whole game rests on it. Jokes are inserted at every opportunity, in every dialogue and every line of text, even the strips of health, food, water and radiation are made with humor. The level of jokes ranges from "Petrosian" to "Englishman", but there is still more smut. Although some people like it. There is no atmosphere of a lifeless space and there is not even close, everything is perceived "for fun". For me, this is a big plus - I have already seen enough of the terrible space full of dangers and secrets.

Stylistics and graphics

Cartoonish, with expressive, but not flashy colors, I really like the graphics. In such a game, there can be no other graphics. The whole game is made in the style of neo-futurism. Like Fallout, only the Soviet version. Humor was not spared here either - posters on the walls, "Tachanka" and other jokes continue to work.

In the same paragraph, I will talk about performance. Does not lag, and thanks for that. I won’t name the characteristics of the computer, I’ll only say that it hasn’t been a top one for five years. Yes, and five years ago it was not top 🙂

And now about the cons

I'll start with why so many people didn't notice them.

The first two hours are very interesting to play. You explore the world, looking for new jokes and references, you really enjoy playing! But then it all turns into a routine, and the jokes disappear altogether, since everything within reach has already been explored. Here's the reason: the reviewers didn't try to beat the game, they just looked at the most interesting part of it and wrote a review. Notice I said "many", not "all".

The length of the game

Non-regenerating resources that can cause the game to crash and roll back a few hours. Multi-stage, when to create one item you need to create five more others. Search for schemes for items.

But you know what makes the game even more addictive? Now I'll say something terrible.

Plot

In Minecraft, Forest or Subnautica, you don’t feel the drag because the plot is not the main thing in them. You do not have a point to which you need to reach, and no one is driving you anywhere. If you want - build a house, if you want - hunt animals. In Breathedge, the emphasis is on the plot, jokes and dialogue. You have fun as long as you find new jokes, but when you stop finding them, the world sinks into gloom. Dozens of minutes of "most exciting" journeys through empty space from station to station and the search for resources merge into one monotonous jelly in which the Man (the main character of the game) is stuck.  

In the second and third chapters brought a lot of new things. Vehicles, points of interest, dialogues, robots, but the path to them lies through kilometers of empty space and hours spent collecting trash.

If you remove most of the elements of survival from the game, then it will not become worse. If you remove the plot from it, the game will lose its uniqueness, but it will become better as a survival game. 

Hack and predictor Aviator

I needed to focus on one thing. Smaller locations, more dialogues. It will definitely benefit the game. I didn't like Breathedge, but I'm not an expert 🙂
