All dragons in Game of Thrones: Dragon House

In HBO's Game of Thrones House of the Dragon, we see the return of dragons to Westeros after an absence of nearly two centuries. Prequel series "dragon housebased on the story of George R.R. Martin The Rise and Fall of the Targaryen Dynasty titled "Fire and Blood" takes place back when dragons dominated the skies of Westeros...until the civil war brought them to the brink of extinction.

The war known as the Dance of the Dragons begins with dragon-related tragedy in the Season 1 finale "The House of the Dragon". Future seasons will depict an increasingly bloody succession campaign between the Blacks and the Greens to claim the Iron Throne - a civil war that will prove tragic for all involved, human and dragon alike.

Below is a list of all the dragons that appeared during the Dance of the Dragons. Some of these have already debuted in House of the Dragon season 1, while others are not expected to appear until later seasons due to the significant time periods described in "Fire and blood».

Every dragon in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon

Let's start with the most notorious Targaryen dragon of all...

Balerion Black Fear

The largest and eldest of all the Targaryen dragons, Balerion was ruled by Aegon the Conqueror and later became the steed of King Viserys I. The black and red dragon had died by the time House of the Dragon began, but its massive skull can be seen on display in the Red Vault.

Vhagar

The second-largest Targaryen dragon, Vhagar is an ancient female dragon and the last to fly during the conquest of Ægon when she served as the mount of Queen Visenya Targaryen. Together they burned Arryn's fleet in the waters off Gulltown. Vhagar was named after the god of Old Valyria and would count towards later events in the House of the Dragon. It was first ridden by Lady Laena Velaryon, and then by Emond Targaryen.

Sirax

As described in George R. R. Martin's official book A World of Ice and Fire: The Untold Story of Westeros and the Game of Thrones, the yellowish Syrax is the "huge and formidable" female mount of Princess Rhaenyra (depicted in Millie Alcock's The Dragon's House as a young and Emma D'Arcy as an adult).

Caraxes

Nicknamed the Blood Vir, this huge, red and horned beast is the dragon of Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and is just as fearsome and vicious as its rider.

Sanfir

With his golden scales and flames, it's no wonder this huge and fearsome male dragon is nicknamed "solar fire". He is the dragon of Aegon II Targaryen (played by Tom Glynn-Carney).

Vermitor "Bronze Wrath"

"Bronze Wrath", the third largest dragon, is described in The World of Ice and Fire as "old and gray". This male dragon was once the steed of Jaehaerys I Targaryen, aka the Old King. The demon Targaryen visits him during the season 1 finale "House of the Dragon".

silver wing

Once ridden by Queen Alysanne Targaryen, this dragon would later become the steed of Ulf the White, a "dragonseed" character who had not yet been introduced to the House of the Dragon.

Meleis "Red Queen"

The Red Queen is the horse of the queen who never was, Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best played in The House of the Dragon). Melis is described in The World of Ice and Fire as "old and cunning, lazy but scary when awakened". Reinis and Meleys made a real sensation in the penultimate episode of the first season of the House of the Dragon.

Moondancer

Dubbed "The World of Ice and Fire" as a "slender and beautiful" female dragon, she is a small but fast mount of Lady Baela Targaryen (who will be portrayed in The House of the Dragon by actors Shani Smethurst and Bethany Antonia as the younger and adult Baela, respectively).

Sea Smoke

This grey-white dragon is still relatively young during the Dance of the Dragons, during which he bonds with Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan). Seasmoke appears during the climactic battle against the Crabfeeder in Season 1 Episode 3.

Flaming Dream

A slender, pale blue dragon with silver markings. She could clearly compete with Vermitor in size, because she hatched under Aegon the Conqueror. Flaming Dream played a prominent role in the first civil war between the Targaryens (between Maegor the Cruel and his nephews), and also laid a clutch of three eggs that were secretly taken to Pentos (who knows, perhaps these are the same eggs that Daenerys gave). Horsewoman in the series - Heleina Targaryen (daughter of King Viserys I).

Tessarion "The Blue Queen"

A dragon with beautiful dark cobalt wings, her claws, crest and scales on her belly were the color of bright hammered copper. Her flames were also cobalt blue. Tessarion is described as being fast, about the same size as Seasmoke, one third the size of Vermitor. It was considered the youngest dragon to reach fighting age. Her rider is Daeron Targaryenson of Queen Alicent.

thunder cloud

This young male dragon will not participate in the House of the Dragon until the end of the series, during which time he will be the dragon of Aegon the Younger.

Vermax

A young male Vermax dragon is the mount of Prince Jaqueris Velaryon (Harry Collett). The Green Dragon makes a brief appearance during Season 1.

Arraks

Said to be five times smaller than Vagar, this young male dragon is ruled by Prince Velaryon (Elliot Grigo) of Luceris. Arrax and Luceris play a pivotal role in the Season 1 finale of "House of the Dragon".

thyraxes

The dragon rider of Prince Joffrey Velaryon, Tyrax was not as big as Vermax and Arrax.

Morgul

This young dragon is related to Princess Jehaera Targaryen.

Shrikos

This dragon is related to Aegon II's son Prince Jehaerys Targaryen.

Morning

The morning dragon, the offspring of Sirax, hatches during the Dance of the Dragons. Morning has pink scales and black horns and is the steed of Lady Raena Targaryen (played in Phoebe Campbell's House of the Dragon).

Sheep stealer

This "brown and simple" wild dragon is tamed, as the World of Ice and Fire describes it, by a "simple, low-born, and unsavory girl" named Nettles, who feeds the dragon mutton to conquer it. Nettle has not yet been introduced to the House of the Dragon.

Cannibal

Another beast that has not yet been introduced to the House of the Dragon, this wild dragon is famous in Fire & Blood for never being tamed, let alone for riding — and for eating other dragons, hence his name. Legend has it that he was hiding on Dragonstone before the arrival of the Targaryens.

gray ghost

The third of the wild dragons, who got his name from the pale gray coloration, the color of the morning mist. He preferred to eat fish and carefully avoided people, hiding in a smoking cave at the top of the mountain.
