Total War Saga: Troy - Agamemnon Game Guide

king

The mighty Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and leader of the Greek army, salivates at the thought of plundering Troy and appropriating its riches. V Total War Saga: Troy it is possible. Here is our guide to help you.

Total War Saga: Troy - guide about King Agamemnon of Mycenae

King Agamemnon begins campaign Total War Saga: Troy , in which only the regions of Mycenae and Tiryns participate. Some of your Greek neighbors are friendly and will respect you, but others can be a problem. As such, your goal is to fortify your lands through careful diplomacy, vassalizing more factions to earn the lion's share of the loot.

As you progress, your generals can get promoted with the King of Men mechanic to gain buffs and extra motivation. Don't forget that you need to prepare to conquer Troy. Hey, it's even possible that the Trojans will search the Greek village before the infamous "thousand ships" are launched.

Here are the conditions for Agamemnon's Homeric victory in Total War Saga: Troy :

  • ➤ Complete 13 epic missions.
  • ➤ Make sure the following factions no longer exist: Troy, Hector of Troy, Paris of Troy.
  • ➤ Hold Trob settlement.
  • ➤ Retain 60% Achaean Influence in Mycenae, Tyrinthia, Argolis, Arcadia and Pylos, Aegialea, Troad, Idea, Ilion, Dardania and Melas.

In any case, read on below for specific mechanics or features you need help with:

Agamemnon's Unique Mechanic

king of the people

Proud and arrogant, Agamemnon considers himself the king of men, and this mechanic is used in Total War Saga: Troy . This is displayed as a bar that shows the various titles you can give to your generals. In turn, they will receive buffs (usually for the entire army), as well as additional motivation.

At first, you will want to save on resources. However, much later, thanks to the Lion's Share mechanic, you will accumulate wealth to help you in Agamemnon's quick conquests. This will allow you to field more armies, level up your commanders and give them new titles.

What's good about this mechanic? You do not have to wait for a turn to reassign a general to another position.

Anyway, here is an example of a fully populated King of Men panel:

Lion's share

Let's talk about the unique mechanics of OP in Total War Saga: Troy , a? The Lion's Share mechanic ensures that Agamemnon is always rolled in dough (or grain, bronze, stone, etc.).

Each turn, your vassals provide you with a certain amount of all five resources. You can set the slider higher to get more, but doing so will cause diplomatic harm to all your vassals. In my case, I just set the slider to the minimum value to keep most of my items in line.

Alternatively, you can directly ask the vassal to give you a lump sum payment for the resource. This will also incur a penalty due to Agamemnon's "greed", and you will not be able to make these requests if your diplomatic relations with the vassal are too low.

I really experienced a little puzzle playing as Agamemnon. It was almost impossible to unite the major Greek factions such as Menelaus/Sparta, Odysseus/Ithaca and Achilles/Phthia. I'm not sure if this is related to some epic missions. For the most part, I just merged a few minor factions.

In any case, since we are preparing for conquest, let's talk about during the campaign of Agamemnon and epic missions в Total War Saga: Troy .

Total War Saga: Troy - Campaign Development when playing as Agamemnon

You are surrounded by several Greek friends. There is your brother Menelaus, the wise Odysseus, Diomedes, Ajax, Ajax the Younger, Ajax's mother, Ajax's grandfather Jimmy Jack Ajax with a glass eye, and so on.

Basically, Agamemnon has many friends in the campaign Total War Saga: Troy . Heck, you even have Troizen as a vassal. So, the goal of the early game is to build your diplomatic relations with everyone who is receptive (NAP/military access and some barter deals to boot).

Agamemnon also starts with two resource techs (+20 gold per turn and +80 gem per turn), so you may need to focus on food next time. Likewise, since some epic missions and victory conditions require him to have a lot of influence in the province, you should consider hiring an envoy agent. Later, if you committed heresy - I mean if you built temples to Apollo - your new agents will have higher ranks.

Note: if you want to get better deals with diplomacy later, consider farming Zeus favor with the Divine Will mechanic. If you need help, you can also check out our guide "divine will"and mythological creatures and agents.

Unfortunately, in the campaign of Agamemnon Total War Saga: Troy you will also encounter several malakami, such as Tiryns, the Corinthians, and Athens (the latter two are likely to become allies in a few turns). Most likely, you will destroy the nearby armies and territory of Tiryns, and then Menelaus and Akis (a small faction that is also at war with them) will take over their island settlements.

It simply means that your extension would be: Tirinthia -> Mycenae (against Corinth) -> Attica and Megaris (against Athens). Ajax controls Salamis and he will be very friendly with Agamemnon, allowing you to enlist his help against the Athenians. From there, you will travel west to destroy any Greek who does not want to be friends with the King of Men.

Note: while you are conquering your neighbors, you will notice that Agamemnon has the ability to vassalize factions once you have captured their last settlement.

resurrected king

As the campaign progresses Total War Saga: Troy - and perhaps because you've already vassalized several Greek factions - you can end the war with the Trojans long before any epic mission involving your rivals comes up.

In my case, one of my vassals was attacked by Methymna, a minor faction that was allied with Hector. The prince was in league with Troy, his brother Paris and cousin Aeneas. Similarly, the hero of the Aeneid Virgil was friends with some Thracian tribes.

It really reminds you of the diplomatic disputes in Total War: Three Kingdoms or maybe World War I because of the way the conflict snowballed. Instead of the Greeks launching a thousand ships to plunder the riches of Asia Minor, the Trojans invaded Achaea.

The good thing is that you can defeat the Trojan invaders by uniting your Greek allies. Heck, Legolas even decided to force Helen to go to a nearby settlement (Marathon), which I immediately caught, ending the lover's romance before he reached the finish line.

Note: To be clear, I doubt that giving Menelaus a settlement that has Helena will automatically result in a "secret" campaign victory with peace being declared across the country and Hector just punching Paris in the face for causing all this trouble. Even so, Menelaus must control neighboring settlements before you can exchange what Helen has. But, hey, a man can dream.

What happened after this point in my playthrough? Well, I mustered my strength and finally sailed across the sea. First I conquered the lands of Hector and Paris. Even Legolas started offering lembas bread in peace deals.

However, the city of Troy was the critical target. It is protected by two full armies with high level units. Even my mid-level units (at the time) couldn't match them.

Rather than push my luck, I simply took up an ambush position to lie in wait for the patrol army (that is, the one that is not garrisoned). With his removal, the conquest of Troy became much easier.

fight-with-three

Keep in mind that the city of Troy also has the following unique features:

  • ➤ maxed out buildings and settlement walls (Poseidon's wrath event/earthquake can damage them)
  • ➤ quick replenishment of the wounded
  • ➤ automatic battle resolution not allowed
  • ➤ agents cannot damage the settlement

Note. As stated in our beginner's guide , you can wait for the Poseidon earthquake to start. This will destroy the walls and buildings of Troy, as well as greatly deplete the strength of its garrison. However, if you really want battles for the ages, then you'll want to break down the walls yourself without relying on the event.

The epic missions of Agamemnon

Frankly, I didn't bother much with Agamemnon's epic missions in Total War Saga: Troy . First, as mentioned earlier , I've encountered a strange bug related to the barter and resource system. At the time, I honestly thought the bug was preventing epic missions from appearing.

As it turns out, epic missions in general feel a little odd. I'm still not sure what makes them appear and when they will appear. Unlike mission systems Three Kingdoms or Warhammer ii , Total War Saga: Troy it is not necessary to "complete task X so that task Y appears immediately after".

Sometimes I had to wait five, 10 or maybe more than a dozen turns to see the next move. In some cases, I have already progressed beyond a certain point, which has made these epic missions moot or redundant.

[Table id = 13 /]

Divine Wrath was actually the last epic mission I completed as Agamemnon in Total War Saga: Troy . I completed this around move 47. It was very strange, because even after 40 extra turns, I still didn't get any epic missions. So, I just decided to conquer Troy and additional territories.

I was told that epic mission triggers and steps should be fixed by the time the game is released. If you ever find additional steps, please let me know.
