In May of this year, mixed reality developer Immersion VR announced the development of a game called "The Ancients" in both AR and virtual reality, together with artist Yakub Rozalsky. They have since released several prototype videos as demos for the upcoming game, including previews of their water animation, ships sailing the sea during a storm, and a naval battle played out on their office floor. All of this has led to a preview of their upcoming game, made with Apple's ARKit, posted today.
The essence of The Ancients is that you need to strategize and plan to blow up the enemy fleet, except that you are an ancient god-like creature and so is your enemy. The demonstration shows the gods facing each other as they stand in waist-deep water as the ships sail opposite each other. By pointing the pointer where you want, you can move the ships around and attack the enemy with missiles and cannons until their life force (which is indicated above each ship) is depleted.
There's still a lot we don't know about this game - like what the intent is and why these ancient gods are so evil - but it looks like the goal of the game is to sink enemy battleships. This and the clash of the ancient gods makes us eagerly awaiting the game from Immersion VR, which does not currently have a release date.
