Fortnite Leak Suggests Three New Mechanics Are In Development

According to a recent Fortnite leak, Epic Games is actively working on three new mechanics. No time has been set yet, but according to information provided by a relayer/data miner @Loolo_WRLD on X, they can be used in future seasons. The information was also reposted @SamLeakss, who is well known in the community for his updates to Rocket Racing and Rocket League.

The mechanics in question are Swing, Prone, and Carjacking. While swinging has been in the game for years thanks to mobility items, it's best suited to seasonal mechanics; it comes and goes.

Lying and Carjacking, on the other hand, are new features. They haven't appeared in the game yet and may change certain gameplay dynamics when implemented.

Note: The information provided is based on Fortnite leaks and should be taken with a grain of salt as it is subject to change.

Fortnite Leak Reveals Three Potential New Mechanics: Swing, Prone, and Carjacking

Let's start with the first of these new rumored Fortnite mechanics, the Seesaw, as mentioned, has been a part of the game for a long time. It was first introduced in Chapter 3 Season 1 during the Spider-Man collaboration. Players could use Spider Lasers to easily navigate the landscape.

Many even praised the animation and mechanics, noting that it was better than anything in Avengers. While this is debatable among fans, the fact remains that Swinging was a much-loved feature in Fortnite. Therefore, its full return as a mechanic (not dependent on items) would be a breath of fresh air.

Next on the list is Prone. This isn’t a revolutionary mechanic, and most combat-focused games allow players to put their characters into a prone position and even crawl. Helldivers 2 makes great use of this mechanic. Players can crawl under guarding weapon turrets as they rain bullets down on them, and even dive into a prone position to avoid incoming fire.

Perhaps going prone could offer a bonus to weapon accuracy, much like sitting reduces aiming range, allowing for more accurate shots.

Last on the list is Car Heist. This feature has been in development for some time now. It was first teased in late 2023. It was thought that this mechanic would be coming in Chapter 5 Season 3 (Destruction). Since the season’s theme is all about vehicles and the apocalypse, Car Heist would fit right in. Unfortunately, it never made it.

There was some information about how it was supposed to work. Players would be able to steal other people's cars and the ability would have a cooldown. The ability could also be cancelled mid-use. The steal could also fail if the driver made a sharp turn or if the car was moving too fast. While we don't see too many vehicle-versus-vehicle combat scenarios in the game, it was going to change the meta in a significant way.

This mechanic would also fit well in supposed "Royal Transport" mode.

When might these new mechanics appear in the game?

Without a set time frame, it’s hard to say when these mechanics might be implemented. It’s also worth noting that Epic Games tends to scrap mechanics early in development for reasons best known to them. As such, none of them are even likely to be implemented in the near future.

This would be a loss for the community given the uniqueness of these mechanics and how they could shape gameplay, but nothing can be done. Since Epic Games is constantly changing aspects of gameplay season after season, perhaps in some cases less is more.

С new movement mechanics introduced at the start of Chapter 6 Season 1, we shouldn't expect more in the near future.
