Rocket League Goes Free on the Epic Games Store
A major Rocket League update is due out tomorrow ahead of the free-to-play transition on September 23rd.
In July, Psyonix announced that its vehicular soccer game Rocket League can be play free , and will move to the Epic Games Store this summer. Today, the studio revealed that the big transition will take place on September 23rd and will be preceded by a major cross-platform update coming tomorrow.
The update will allow players to link their platform of choice to their Epic Games account to ensure cross platform progress , and will also add support for the Epic "Support-a-Creator" program, which gives players the ability to support accredited content creators by entering their codes when making purchases in the Item Store. Eligible creators will receive five percent of credits spent when using their codes.
Legacy Items, promised to existing players, including all Rocket League branded DLC, special title, Golden Cosmos power-up, Dicei-Oro wheels, Huntress player banner, and upgrading over 200 common items to Legacy level, will be delivered in tomorrow's update.
Other changes in the update include:
- New Quick Chats
- Heatseeker in closed matches
- Large pool of items to trade
- Solo Standard removed
- New Bot Difficulty
- New Merc Hitbox
- Rocket League X Monstercat remixes
- Updated menu
- Achievement Changes
But the big win is the free-to-play launch next week. Rocket League is available to wishlist at Epic Games Store , and anyone who purchases it in the first month of Epic release will also receive a $10 off coupon for use in games and DLC on the Epic Games Store. (So even if you don't care about Rocket League, just add it to your library and get ten bucks for the next EGS thing you really care about.)
Rocket League's first competitive season will also kick off with a free-to-play launch - more details on that to be announced later this week. With the launch of Epic, there will be new Test , as well as a couple of new item sets, the Endo Starter Pack for 500 Credits and the Jager Pack for 1000 Credits.
Epic also teased something coming to Fortnite called Rocket League Llama-Rama:
