Riot Games will be incredibly busy in 2019 as they showed League of Legends champions getting a full facelift as they work on a new AD killer to debut on the Rift.
Developers League of Legends typically update their roster of over 140 characters with key balance changes or visual and gameplay updates (VGUs). Now, it seems like a few popular champions are about to get under the lens for some much-needed changes.
In the April 23 Champions Roadmap, Champion Lead Producer Ryan "Reave3" Mireles laid out a game plan for the rest of the year that will rely heavily on virtual machines while bringing new faces to the game.
In the previous roadmap, the Riot team added a video to their diary with lots of hints and teasers for the next champion in line. While last time the team hinted at enchanter support, League of Legends developers are getting ready to release a solo AD liner.
“This new champion will be a solo lane AD killer,” said Reav3. “It's been a while, I know. There are very few champions like this in the game, and we know many of you love playing them."
The Champion will also bring the introduction of the new Runeterra faction to further expand the lore of the League of Legends.
In a brief excerpt, Reav3 also revealed an "unconventional shooter" that appeared in late 2019, which involved a wave of energy passing through a wall with runes marked on it.
More information about the arrow will be in the next updates.
As far as VGU updates go, Mordekaiser is still on track for a complete overhaul. Not only will Iron Revenant be getting updates to his visuals, but the Riot team has also "updated or replaced every ability in their kit."
The team still plans for him to be the "AP juggernaut", but this time he'll be armed with a devastating ending "that will make his enemies truly feared and respected," according to Reav3.
As for the next champion in line for VGU, Pantheon will get a makeover after the Mordekaiser changes go into effect. The developers plan to upgrade his kit instead of making huge changes like Morde.
While little information was provided, the developers teased that new mechanics could be introduced to Pantheon "to make the Pantheon shield feel more integrated into its kit." Needless to say, there will be new faces coming to the Rift, whether through a champion release or VGU design, as League of Legends fans eagerly wait to see where the game is headed.
