The Complete Guide to Playing Teamfight Tactics

Teamfight Tactics
Teamfight Tactics is a new game mode set in the amazing world of Convergence. In TFT, you have to take on seven opponents in an epic battle. Gather a powerful team, upgrade your troops and watch the battles.

Can you be the last survivor?

GAME PROCESS

Little legends

Little Legend is your avatar in Teamfight Tactics. To get new Little Legends, play TFT or buy them from the League of Legends store.

The Little Legend can be selected in the game lobby before the start of the match. Move your legend around the arena with the right mouse button and use emotes just like in any other League game mode.

Management

Basic management

Most of the actions in the game are performed using the left mouse button.
  • Drag champions between cells on the battlefield, as well as between the battlefield and the bench.
  • Drag and drop items to give them to champions.
  • Left-click champions to purchase them from the shop.
  • Drag champions back to the store to sell them.
  • Click on the mini-map or score window to see the arenas of other players.
Right-click to move the little legend to selected locations.
  • Right-click champions for details.

Additional control

  • [IN]: Hover over a champion and click this button to move them from the bench to the battlefield or vice versa.
  • [IS]: Hover over a champion and click this button to sell a fighter.
  • [1] and [2]: Press these buttons to switch between player arenas. [1] takes you to the next arena, and [2] takes you to the previous one.
  • [Space]: returns the camera to your little legend. As a rule, it is located in your arena.

Your arena

  1. little legend

    • Your little legend is always on the map. Say hello to her!
  2. Battlefield

    • This is the battlefield. Place your champions in rows close to you. The opponent's champions spawn at the top of the map.
  3. Bench spare

    • Purchased champions are here until you move them to the battlefield.
  4. Shop

    • In the store, a random set of champions will be available to you, including their copies, from a list common to all. By combining multiple copies of the same champion, you will get a stronger version of it (more on that later).
    • Ability to block / unblock the store: you can lock the store so that the champions available in it do not automatically update at the start of the round. This can be useful in situations where you see the right champion but can't afford it.
    • Update: for a small fee, you can upgrade champions in the shop. They are updated for free at the beginning of each round, but sometimes more options may be needed.
    • Buying experience: you can purchase experience points with gold. The higher your level, the more powerful and expensive champions are available to you.
  5. Feature Panel

    • Here you can keep track of the faction and class bonuses of your champions.
  6. Item Inventory

    • Items are here until you drag them onto champions. When you sell a champion with items, they return here.
  7. Gold Generators

    • Gold generators appear depending on how much money you already have. Each generator gives 1 gold at the start of your next turn.
  8. Account

    • Displays the health status of all players in the match. Click on a player to see their arena.
  9. Stages panel

    • Provides information on how many rounds of the current stage you have won, how many you have lost, and how many rounds you have left.
  10. Phase panel

    • The current phase and the time until it ends are displayed here.
  11. Opponent's side

    • When you enter a fight with another player's team, you will see his bench, inventory of items and generators of gold. In addition, of course, you will get to know his little legend.

Player stats

Health

You start the match with 100 health. The damage you receive each time you lose a fight depends on how many champions survived the enemy and how strong they are. When your health reaches zero, you are out of the game and your champions are returned to the shared pool for recruitment by other players.

Gold

Gold is your main resource with which you can perform important actions:
  • buy champions;
  • update the list of available champions in the store;
  • buy experience points to level up faster.
Gold is obtained in several ways:
  • automatically at the beginning of each round;
  • using gold generators at the beginning of each round (the amount depends on the number of generators);
  • as a bonus at the beginning of each round in case of a series of wins OR losses;
  • immediately after winning a PvP round.
In addition, you will receive gold for selling unnecessary champions. More powerful champions are given less gold than you spent on their purchase.

Level up

Each player starts at level 1 and gains experience as the match progresses, up to level 9. The higher your level, the more champions you can include in the team and purchase more and more powerful champions in the store.

You gain some experience at the end of each round, enough to level up at a moderate pace in the early game. However, as the match progresses, you will have to spend gold on additional experience points in order to further expand your team.

Structure of the game

Stages

Matches in Teamfight Tactics are divided into stages, each of which consists of several game rounds.

Rounds

A round usually consists of a planning phase and a combat phase.

Planning phase

At the start of the planning phase, the following automatically occurs:
  • you get gold;
  • your shop is updated with new champions (if you have not blocked it).
During the planning phase, you have 30 seconds to purchase champions, upgrade the store (if necessary), and place characters on the battlefield.
At the end of the planning phase, your team is already ready for battle and cannot be changed.

When placing champions during the planning phase, consider their strengths and weaknesses. Stronger ones should be put forward, and fragile ones should be put back. But be careful - some champions can directly attack your back lane.

Combat Phase (PvP)

Most of a Teamfight Tactics match consists of PvP rounds where you fight against random opponents. At the end of the planning phase, the combat phase begins: your little legend and team of champions are transferred to the opponent's arena - or vice versa! The combat phase lasts until the winners of the round are determined or until the time runs out. If the fight is still ongoing after the time expires, each member will take damage based on the number of surviving opposing champions.

Command duplication

When an odd number of players remain in a PvP round (seven, five, or three), the random player's team is duplicated so that each participant has a pair. An additional team can be put up against any player, except for the one whose team is duplicated. If the stand-in team wins, then the opponent is dealt normal damage - as if it were a real team. If she loses, then nothing happens, because at the end of the round the understudy disappears anyway.

Combat Phase (PvE)

In some rounds, you need to fight the monsters controlled by artificial intelligence, and not the players. The first three rounds of the game, as well as the last round of most subsequent stages, are always PvE. Killed monsters sometimes leave behind items that can be given to champions.

Joint Choice of Champions

At the beginning of the game, as well as every few subsequent rounds, players participate in the joint choice of champions. Everyone is transferred to the central island of the Convergence, where one champion is chosen for free from a random set, the same for everyone. To choose a champion, move your little legend to it, but be careful: the legend will choose the first champion it touches, and the choice cannot be changed after that! In the later stages of the game, the players with the lowest health are chosen first.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHAMPIONS

Champions are the fighters you hire. They can be combined, placed on the field and sent into battle. Once the battle begins, the champions fight on their own.
  • Champions move across the battlefield to get within attack range of enemies.
  • Champions attack each other, and sometimes deal critical hits with increased damage.
  • Each champion has a unique skill that they periodically use. Skills can be offensive, defensive, or simply useful for the team.
Champions have eight base stats.
  • Health: How much damage a champion can take before dying.
  • attack range: How close a champion must be to attack an enemy.
  • ATK: How much damage each champion's attack deals.
  • Attack speed: How often the champion attacks.
  • Ability power: how strong the champion's skill is.
  • Armor: Reduces damage taken from attacks.
  • Magic resistance: Reduces damage taken from skills.
  • Mana: Determines how often the champion can cast their skill (the lower the mana pool, the lower the cost of the skill, and the more often the champion can use it).
    • Champions usually start the fight with zero mana and replenish it when attacking and taking damage.
    • Champions automatically cast their skill when their mana pool is full.
    • Some champions have passive skills that do not cost mana and are permanent.

Star level

Combine three copies of the same champion to create a two-star enhanced version of it. Champions with two stars have significantly higher health and attack power and more powerful skills.

Combine three copies of a two-star champion for an even stronger version. Three-star champions have huge amounts of health and attack power, and their skills are maxed out!
When you have three copies of the same champion, they are merged automatically. If one of the copies was on the battlefield, the improved champion will appear there.

Rank

There are five levels of champions. Higher level characters are stronger, but cost more and are less common. At the beginning of the game, only low-level champions will be available to you, but as you level up, you will more often come across stronger characters.

High-level champions differ in text color, gem shape, and gold cost:
  • 1st level (1 gold)
  •  2st level (2 gold)
  •  3st level (3 gold)
  •  4st level (4 gold)
  •  5st level (5 gold)

Fractions

The champion's faction indicates where he comes from or what group he belongs to. Place multiple unique champions from the same faction to unlock powerful trait bonuses! Copies of the same champion also receive trait bonuses, but do not count toward unique champions on the battlefield, even if they have different star numbers.

Each faction has its own unique bonus:

Demon

  • When multiple demons are placed, they have a chance to burn the target's mana, dealing damage equal to the mana burned. The more demons on the battlefield, the higher this chance.

The Dragon

  • When both dragons are deployed, they gain immunity to skill damage.

Exile

  • Exiles start the fight with a shield if no other champions are close to them at the start of the fight.

icy

  • When multiple frostbites are deployed, they gain a chance to stun the target with their attacks. The more icebound on the battlefield, the higher this chance.

Robot

  • Robots start combat with full mana.

Imperial

  • When multiple Imperials are deployed, one of them has doubled attack power.
  • When all Imperials are deployed, all of them have double their attack power.

Aristocrat

  • When multiple nobles are deployed, one random champion gains armor and regenerates health during attacks.
  • When all Nobles are deployed, your entire team gains armor and regenerates health during attacks.

Ninja

  • When only one ninja is deployed, it gains attack power.
  • When all ninja are deployed, each of them gains even more attack power.

Pirate

  • When enough pirates are placed, you receive gold at the end of each round.

Ghost

  • When enough ghosts are placed, they curse a random enemy at the start of combat, reducing their starting health.

Wild

  • Deploying multiple wildlings increases their attack speed.
  • When enough wildlings are placed, your entire team gains increased attack speed.

Void Dweller

  • When enough Void creatures are deployed, your team will begin to ignore some of the target's armor.

Yordle

  • When multiple yordles are deployed, enemies will sometimes miss attacking them. The more yordles on the battlefield, the higher the miss chance.

Classes

A champion's class determines his fighting style and purpose. Classes are similar to factions - they give additional bonuses depending on the number of unique representatives of the same class in your team (copies of champions do not count in the calculation).

Assassin

At the beginning of the battle, the assassins sneak around the battlefield and appear in the opposite direction from their original location.

  • When multiple assassins are deployed, their critical damage is increased. The more killers on the battlefield, the greater this damage.

Blademaster

  • When deploying multiple Blademasters, there is a chance for their attacks to trigger multiple times. The more blademasters on the battlefield, the higher this chance.

Rowdy

  • When multiple brawlers are deployed, they gain additional health. The more brawlers on the battlefield, the more health they have.

Elementalist

Elementalists gain more mana during attacks.

  • When enough elementalists are deployed, they summon an elemental that fights by your side at the start of combat.

sentinel

  • When both guards are deployed, they give armor to themselves and allies that adjoin them at the start of combat.

Arrowslinger

  • When multiple shooters are deployed, they have a chance to attack multiple targets at once. The more shooters on the battlefield, the higher this chance.

Knight

  • When multiple knights are deployed, they begin to block damage from incoming attacks. The more knights on the battlefield, the more damage they block.

Ranger

  • When multiple rangers are deployed, they have a chance to briefly increase their attack speed. The more rangers on the battlefield, the higher this chance.

Changeling

  • When enough shapeshifters are placed, they gain health after they transform.

Wizard

Wizards gain more mana during attacks.

  • When multiple sorcerers are deployed, your team gains ability power. The more sorcerers on the battlefield, the more ability power they give.

ITEMS OVERVIEW

Items increase the base stats of champions and can be upgraded for unique effects. In PvE rounds, killing each monster can earn you an item. In co-selection rounds, each champion will spawn with an item. At the beginning of the game, only basic items will be available to you, but improved ones will begin to appear in the future.

There are a total of eight basic items in TFT.

 Best Sword:

increases attack damage.

 Recurve Bow:

allows you to attack more often.

Wand Too Big:

enhances skills.

Tear of the Goddess:

Gives some mana at the start of the fight.

 Giant's Belt:

increases health.

 Chain mail:

Reduces damage from enemy auto attacks.

 Absorption Cloak:

reduces damage from enemy skills.

Shoulder:

does not change stats, but can be upgraded to a game-changing item.
Drag the item onto the champion so they can use it (be careful as this cannot be undone). If you give a champion two basic items, they will automatically turn into an improved item with the same parameters as its components. Each pair of basic items creates different enhanced versions!

Upgraded items enhance your attacks and skills, provide unique effects, and even change the properties of your champions! Below are just a few examples of these combinations and their effects. During the game, you will come across many more interesting and unique uses for items.

Edge of Infinity:

Critical hits deal double damage.

Medallion of the Iron Solari:

at the start of combat, the wearer and adjacent champions gain a shield.

Knight's Oath:

the owner also becomes a knight.
