Shanghai Police Detain Man Who Decided To Kill MiHoYo Owners Because Of Bunny Costume In Honkai Impact 3rd
On April 24, Shanghai police detained a knife-wielding man who intended to break into the miHoYo building to kill the founders of the Chinese studio behind Genshin Impact.
However, the reason for the malice is to be found in miHoYo's previous project, Honkai Impact 3rd, again an anime-style action role-playing game for mobile platforms. Recently, in order to mark the third anniversary of the global version, the studio released a video with the dancing heroines of the game dressed as rabbits.
The latter were added directly to Honkai Impact 3rd. However, the Chinese community of the project harbored a grudge against the developers: someone considered the topic inappropriate, but the majority simply could not come to terms with the lack of this content in China. As a result, miHoYo had to remove the video from the official YouTube channel along with the in-game costumes and apologize.
It's unclear if the suspect in the assassination attempt against the founders of MiHoYo was upset over the addition or removal of additional content. But according to police information, it was enough for a man from Foshan to travel to Shanghai with a plan to assassinate the CEO and president of the company and commit suicide shortly thereafter.
