Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Character Creation Guide

Chances are you'll spend hours just trying to make your main character in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. With so many options to choose from, you are sure to be overwhelmed. Here is our character creation guide Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, which will help you.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - character creation guide

Ready-made and custom characters

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous allows you to choose from several pre-made characters. Options: Cavalier half-elf, Cleric Ored, Dwarf rogue and others. However, if you want everything to suit your taste, you can also create your own character.

Note 1. Before we continue, make sure you enable "Allow character retraining" in the difficulty options. You will be able to retrain/retrain your main character and companions once you reach Protector's Rest. This ensures that you don't get into trouble by making a sub-optimal choice.

2 Note: Please be reminded that this guide is not specifically designed for minimum maximum purposes. The information just gives beginners an idea of what they can expect from the character creation system.

Portraits

Our first task is to choose a portrait. Tens are already available by default. Some of these character creation portraits are new in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous , and others from Kingmaker .

Note. It's also possible to add your own portrait if you're not happy with what's available.

Classes

Next, we need to select a class. Now to be clear, you are going to be spending a lot of time here because Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has 25 default classes and each has multiple archetypes/subclasses. Similarly, there are 13 prestige classes that you won't be able to select right now, as they require you to advance a bit in the campaign in order to gain some skills or abilities.

We will not discuss all classes in detail in this guide. However, suffice it to say that you will want to take into account three factors:

  • What style of play are you comfortable with? Do you want to get into the thick of the fight, or do you prefer to cast spells while your allies protect you?
  • Speaking of allies, it's worth mentioning the comrades you meet during your travels. For example, the first person you can recruit during the prologue is a paladin named Sila. After a moment, you will meet a shaman named Kamelia. While you can customize them as you level up, their distinct playstyle and abilities should complement your protagonist's class.
  • Finally, you'll want to consider class complexity. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has a "difficulty" tooltip (indicated by circles) that tells you if the class is easy enough or better used by those with more experience with the game. In this example, Monk's difficulty level is "2", which means it is suitable for beginners. Compare this to Alchemist or Warrior (difficulty 4) or Kinetic (difficulty 5).

Race

Then you can choose your race. Again, we won't go into details. You just need to take into account the racial bonuses you can get as well as the possible heritage (subrace).

backgrounds

Your experience plays a role in the additional bonuses you can get, such as skills (such as skill checks) and/or weapon proficiency. For example, if you go with the Quarterstaff Master Monk, you will deal higher damage with that particular weapon. Meanwhile, in the backgrounds panel, you will see that the Wanderer - Hermit background adds a bonus to several weapon skills, including the battle staff.

Abilities

Abilities (i.e. attributes/stats) refer to your Strength (STR), Agility (DEX), Constitution (CON), Intelligence (INT), Wisdom (WIS), and Charisma (CHA). Each ability manages multiple skill checks, and the game also tells you which ones to focus on based on the class you've chosen. For example, most builds for Rogue, Slayer, Hunter and Monk focus on high DEX.

Skills and abilities

Your skills determine the degree of success of your actions while exploring, popping up additional dialogs, or avoiding enemies:

  • Athletics (STR) - Climbing an obstacle or jumping to another area of the map.
  • Mobility (DEX) - Moving past opponents without triggering attacks of opportunity in combat.
  • Deception (DEX) - Hacking and disarming traps.
  • Stealth (DEX) - move past opponents unnoticed and avoid random encounters on the world map.
  • Knowledge: Arcana (INT) - Learn spells from spell books, create arcane spell scrolls, and identify magic items.
  • Knowledge: World (INT) - Brew potions, decipher texts and remember information about the earth.
  • Knowledge: Nature (WIS) - removes fatigue when traveling on the world map and gains the ability to heal diseases.
  • Knowledge: Religion (WIS) - Create scrolls of divine spells and recall information about religious beliefs.
  • Perception (WIS) - allows you to notice traps and hidden items / loot; prevents enemies from being surprised while camping.
  • Persuasion (CHA) - The percentage of success for additional dialogue options (such as diplomacy, intimidation, and deceit).
  • Use the Magic Device (CHA) - the ability to activate wands and scrolls that you normally cannot use.

Note 1: your choices here will help with your character build (i.e. if you want to encourage NPCs to give you better rewards, you'll need high Persuasion to convince them). Also, consider the skills of your comrades.

Note 2: remember, that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous automatically selects the character with the highest skill for a certain action (for example, attempting to open a chest when your entire squad is selected will cause the character with the highest skill to perform the action).

exploits

Next we have feats. Here you will see what you can choose from. Usually a choice of weapon or spell skill will do here. Additional features will become available later when you level up or purchase the necessary conditions.

Yes, and in some cases the class/subclass and race you choose will allow you to choose bonus feats right from the start.

Deity and worldview

Deities in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offer several benefits. They also help determine certain spells that can be used if they require a specific deity.

However, some may not be available depending on your class or alignment. You can also choose atheism. This unlocks several unique options, the Perception skill, and a +2 bonus on saving throws against divine-type spells. Unfortunately, you won't be able to cast divine spells or those that require a deity.

Similarly, the alignment you choose depends on your previous choices in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous character creation. For example, paladins often ended up on the Lawful Good spectrum early on. But this may change if you continue to play the campaign. When certain decisions regarding your character's moral compass are presented, you can use lawful, chaotic, good, or evil responses.

Appearance, voice, name, birthday and summary screen

Finally, you can customize the appearance, voice, name, and birthday of your character. Choose the options and aesthetics you like and go to the summary screen. This will give you details of all the choices you made during character creation. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous .

If you like everything, go ahead and start your adventure. Alternatively, you can tweak your character a little more or, even better, play the prologue and restart the campaign if you want to try different combos. There are tons of things you can do and we've only just begun.
