Our Fiery Friend Baldur's Gate 3 Quest: walkthrough

Karlach is a former military Baldur's Gate 3, a tiefling who recently freed herself from the insidious influence of the devil. Her story is full of adventures and challenges, and now you can immerse yourself in her life's journey, following her every step of this amazing journey.

Mission Objectives

Deal with Tyr's paladins: Our journey began with meeting Karlach, a passionate female tiefling. She shared information about her persecution by the paladins of Tyr, servants of the archdevil Zariel. We decided to add Karlach to our squad and took on the task of dealing with the paladins who were pursuing her.

Travel with Karlach: After defeating the paladins who were pursuing Karlach, we made her part of our quest to cure the parasites. However, the path of our group was still difficult, and we had to clash with Gortash, the former boss of Karlach.

Find Lord Gortash: Gortash, who once trusted Karlakh, betrayed her and doomed her to a life in hell. Now Karlach seeks revenge on Gortash, but finding him is a task of paramount importance.

Challenge Lord Gortash: We have received information that Gortash is going to take the title of Archduke of Baldur's Gate, and Karlach sees this as a chance to deal with him at the ceremony. However, the ceremony did not go smoothly, and Karlach ended up in prison. Our task is to rescue her.

Meet Lord Gortash face to face: We were able to help Karlach get out of prison, and she still seeks revenge on Gortash. Our next step is to confront Gortash himself.

Confront Lord Gortash: Finally, we challenged Gortash to a duel, and he is no longer the Archduke. Now we need to take Karlakh to his body.

Continue traveling with Karlach: Although Gortash is dead and Karlach could have taken revenge, she still has heart problems. She could be healed if we could find the infernal mechanic. Time is running out and we need to hurry to help her.

The Hellion's Heart: To solve the problem of Karlach’s heart, there are several possible options:

  1. The search for a hellish mechanic who can adjust her propulsion system, which serves instead of a heart.
  2. Meet Dammon, a tiefling armorer who can help repair the Karlach thruster, but to do this he needs hellish iron.
  3. Finding hellish iron and handing it over to Dammon for repair.
  4. Waiting for Dammon to try to find a solution for Karlach.
  5. Dammon's ability to develop a new plan to extend the life of Karlach's heart.
  6. Past events may have made it impossible to repair Karlach's heart.

Depending on your choice, the story can develop differently.

Our Fiery Friend Walkthrough Baldur's Gate 3

«Hunt the Devil" - the first quest in the line of tasks "Our Fiery Friend" Karlach must have survived the events in the mission The Blade of Frontiers before it became available. Talk to her and she will name the paladins she should kill.

How to recruit Karlach

While it's not mandatory, recruiting Wil will help you track down Karlach in literally every sense of the word. His original mission was to find out the location of Karlach, so if you want to know where to look for her, add him to your team. Otherwise you can find Karlach north of Infested Village. When you cross the river to the north, then head east and return to the river, you will find Karlach, and after a short conversation you can accept her into the team.

Deal with Tyr's paladins

Zariel's minions pose as paladins at the outpost (X: 106 Y: 562). To continue the quest, you need to enter the building that is marked as a quest area to find Anders inside.

You can use a Detect Thoughts check to try to figure out if Anders is telling the truth. Your outcome will depend on the result of the check:

  • Insight (Difficulty 10): Success - discover Anders' true intentions, Failure - unable to determine.

You can also use a detect thoughts scroll or the spell itself to obtain the information:

  • Intelligence (Difficulty 11): Success - find out Anders' true intentions, Failure - the battle will immediately begin.

Regardless of the test result, you will be forced to fight Anders, Trinn and Cyrel. Anders is at level 5, while the other two are at level 4.

  • Cyrel has the ability to cause mirror images and use acid attacks.
  • Trinn can cast Hamstring to slow down your party and use Hunted Prey.
  • Anders can attack multiple times and often scores critical hits.

It is recommended to focus on one of the weaker enemies first, such as Trinn, and then move on to the rest. Anders may be the most dangerous, so you can also start with him.

After the battle, Karlach will go into an unbridled rage and begin attacking objects in the room. After she calms down, the quest will complete and you can talk to Karlach. Tell her you like her look to get her approval. This is how the quest begins “The Hellion's Heart".

Before you leave, go up to the second floor and go right to reach an open area. There you will find a Soul Coin, which will lead to a conversation with Karlach and the ability to use Soul Coins during battle to improve your performance.

Travel with Karlach

After completing the above quest, you are still in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. From here you need to continue through the main campaign until you reach the final moments of the main quest.Defeat Ketheric Thorm".

During these final moments, you will discover someone Karlach knows.

Find Lord Gortash

After all the events of the main quest, when you set up camp, talk to Karlach to update the task. Your next objective will be a confrontation with Lord Gortash as part of the quest “Get the Netherian stone Gortasha“. However, he has powerful Steel Guardians to protect him.

If you do not have powerful lightning attacks or spells, then it is worth considering completing the task “Disable the Steel Guardians”. Whichever side you choose will provide you with an ally for the final battle.

Confront Lord Gortash

Gortash starts the battle by using Blinding Beam to deal damage and blindness in a straight line. He also creates a “Shield of Resistance” which protects him from lightning damage and reduces elemental damage for one turn. He can also use or throw Reflex Guard, which deflects projectiles.

Around Gortash there are three enemies supporting him: one Black Cuff and two Iron Consuls. Incineration Throwers are also scattered throughout the battle. Destroy them quickly, as they constantly spit out grenades that the enemies will use for their own purposes.

Luckily, there are several Grenade Throwers on the battlefield that drop “Concussion Grenades”. You can throw them at Gortash and other enemies to damage them or knock them down. Beware of Reflex Guard and Force Veils, which provide Gortash with his barriers, as they block most damage.

Destroy the Force Veils and use physical attacks against those who have Reflex Guard. Non-projectile magic (like Flame Curse) works well here. Power Veils have the Sturdy quality and require non-fire attacks that deal more than 10 damage.

After receiving enough damage, Gortash will use Avatar of Tyranny. This gives him an extra 150 health and advantage on Strength saving throws and Strength checks. He also uses unarmed attacks instead of a crossbow.

"Chain of Tyranny” binds units around Gortash. Breaking the chains deals force damage to the unit, but you can break Gortash's concentration to stop it. He can also summon “Closed Fist of Bane”, which deals area damage over two turns. “Manifestations of Tyranny” will also appear with an aura that enhances the Force.

After this stage, Gortash will no longer have Reflex Guard, but if you haven't destroyed the Force Veils, they can still create barriers. If the Force Veils are destroyed, keep throwing grenades at Gortash while one of your durable characters distracts him. The battle must end quickly.

After the battle, examine Gortash and talk to Karlach. She will leave your party and you should talk to her at the camp. After the conversation, she can join your squad again, and the task will be completed.

Note:

  • If you kill the strange bull in Act XNUMX, Dammon will not appear at the Last Light Tavern, so you will not be able to repair Karlach's heart.
  • Karlach can use Soul Coins to gain the Devil's Wrath condition, which adds 1D4 fire damage to her attacks while enraged or below 25% health.
  • Karlach can suggest ways to cool her down in camp. This can be done using ice or water magic directed at her.
  • If you free Orpheus (Free Orpheus), Karlach will offer to turn her into an illithid before fighting the Elder Brain. You may agree. But if you do not sacrifice her, then in the end she will go to Averno along with Will (if he is alive).

Completing a task can have several options:

  1. We did everything possible to restore Karlach's heart and helped her take revenge on Gortash. Now she only seeks to save the city.
  2. We helped Karlakh take revenge on Gortash, but we could not restore her hellish heart.
  3. We could not help Karlakh take revenge on Gortash and we could not restore her heart.
  4. Karlach left us forever.
  5. Karlach left us and will not return again.
  6. Karlakh went to Gortash alone and will never return to us.
  7. We left Karlach in prison on Snake Rock.
  8. We did everything possible to restore Karlach's heart, but we did not help her take revenge on Gortash.
  9. Karlach was killed.
  10. Karlach attacked us and we had to kill her.
