This theory is deeply rooted in the fact that the aforementioned trailer lifts the curtain on two characters that are currently unplayable. They can be seen at 5:31 minutes below, with a voice-over visibly saying, “Who knows where the next champion will come from?”

None of these have been officially added to the game, but the character on the left appears to be a hooded robot, while the character on the right is a certain Talchum. However, since these silhouettes are hard to see, they could actually be anyone, or even characters that Apex Legends players haven't seen before.
Even if these silhouettes of the two characters are not the figures depicted in the trailer, it is likely that a 9th and 10th character will be added. It is currently unknown how many characters will be added to Apex Legends in the future, but this is one of the changes fans are looking forward to.
In addition to new characters, Respawn is also going to release new cards if the developer deems them worthy. Changes to the game, such as the addition of new characters and new maps, will likely make a big difference for Apex Legends. Considering the developer wants this to be a ten year old game, changes like this are needed to make this the number one battle royale game and also compete with Fortnite and PUBG.
Time will tell if Apex Legends is really here to stay, but given its growing popularity, it will be!
