Dataminers are back in business. This time around, it looks like they've managed to unearth not only names for unreleased (and potentially upcoming) guns in the popular battle royale game Apex Legends, but art models as well.
With a random player progression bug in Apex Legends this week, some gamers have started unlocking skins for weapons that haven't even been released in the game yet. The L-Star is a special weapon that Bloodhound keeps on the loading screen and splash screen. The random addition of weapon skins means we'll likely see it released into the wild very soon.
Known Data Source ApexLeaksNews also discovered several weapon models and connects voice lines with six weapons that have not yet been released. The ApexLeaksNews tweet mentions that the model files have been added to the databases in Season XNUMX folders, which means their inclusion may be more imminent than originally thought. In the same thread, they note that the recently released Octane has voice lines in the game's folders that refer specifically to this weapon.
The most interesting weapon in the stack of discovered files is a softball. This pistol is obviously a grenade launcher and could shake up the whole strategy of the game in its current state. Up to this point, weapons were straight throwing weapons or energy-based ammunition. Apart from grenades, this will be the first addition of a player-controlled burst of damage.
Some of the other weapons in this find seem new, like the ARL and Defender, while the other weapons in the files are either drawn directly from the Titanfall franchise or inspired by small arms, as seen in these two FPS titles.
When will new weapons appear in Apex legends?
For now, it's a mystery. It's important to note that in the two months since launch, Respawn has only released one new weapon to the game. It's entirely possible that Respawn is gearing up to open content gateways. It would make sense since they must have had to refocus some things due to the huge success of the Apex Legends launch.
We're excited to see what's coming to Apex Legends with new content. Both new legends and new gear will do a lot to bring this fast-paced shooter to life.
