Mod That Gets Removed for Shadow of the Tomb Raider with naked Lara Croft
There has been a fanservice war in recent years that has been claimed by a number of franchises, even Mortal Kombat. Now a bunch of people keep saying things like "Even if they developers don't add sexy costumes to the game, you can always add them using PC mods." Well, that only applies when modding doesn't fall under the Digital Millennium Copyright Action Notice, which effectively makes PC modding a more controversial option for bringing back sexyness after the developers bowed low to censorship. This is exactly what happened to the modding community making obscene mods for Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Back on April 14, 2019 modder JOSTAR made a mod called Shadow of the Tomb Raider Nude Mod (Booty Edition). It was with over 25 different sexy outfits for Lara, who was pictured in various quality states of undressing. As a result, JOSTAR was banned from NexusMods after an argument with a moderator and the mod was removed.
Another friend with the nickname Sirius56 managed to track down JOSTAR and get permission to re-upload the mod to NexuMods. However, on April 17, 2019, Sirius56 had some sad news to share after users noticed that the mod was gone again and could not be used on NexusMods.
Neogaf user Rurouni Kenshin discovered a comment thread about a standalone Shadow of the Tomb Raider nude mod where Sirius56 explained that the JOSTAR mod had to be removed yet again, although this time it was due to a DMCA claim from Crystal Dynamics...
“Well guys, I have bad news; even if I could get approval from JOSTAR, the mod won't go live; apparently the site is receiving a "DMCA Takedown from Crystal Dynamics"; whatever it is; but the result was a notification from the admin saying that "even when I was able to get the approval, it would be awkward for the site to host it", so the post was removed permanently. So for now, even if I or someone creates another post, it will be deleted.
"Not entirely sure why this only applies to [Booty Edition]; I expected all nude modes to be affected, but that's not the case.
"Basically, the "winners" are only those who were able to download it for the first and second time, and the rest of the community will have to wait for something else."
One possibility for the DMCA to block the mod could be due to content affecting DLC costumes in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, or referencing or containing items related to the DLC.
Often, developers (or publishers) quickly close mods containing premium content.
Alternatively, Crystal Dynamics could argue that the only reason anyone is remotely interested in Shadow of the Tomb Raider after it hit the market last year is because of nude mods, which is why they are trying to stifle the community's interest in nude mods. You can get an idea of what the mod was like thanks to the NSFW YouTube video uploaded by user Nude Play.
The news spread quickly, hitting the Tomb Raider forums where users started discussing the pros and cons of nude mods and how developers have the power to block PC modulators from making nude mods.
Many users began to denounce the need for sex appeal.
Luckily, there was one user in the thread who showed some average common sense, with Yeauxleaux explaining…
"Lara's reboot and lack of sex appeal is definitely not just about her wardrobe. This is the whole package. In the image of the girl next door, the languid bad posture in her animation, the socially awkward angle they gave her personality, the whining annoying voice, the total lack of humor. This is a whole feature. What about a stupid haircut? How drastic the changes are and how elaborate they are, they seem to have removed from her at least some sign of not only sexuality, but also an overall boldness, elegance, style and femininity.
"They are determined to downplay that side of her as much as possible. It's not some conspiracy or agenda charge, I don't know what their motives are and I don't really care why, it's just a basic observation.
"I've said it before and I'll say it again, Classic Lara's charm and appeal shone even when they were fully dressed in boxy winter outfits. She had "it" even with a blocky, basic non-detailed character model. She had a way of moving, acting and speaking, along with her overall appearance, which made her naturally attractive. The Lara reboot absolutely lacks that quality. I'm sure even a bikini can't make her conditionally sexy to me."
Well some people just wanted to get their hands on the mod no matter what they think of nu-Lara Croft and luckily the good folks at Alienware Arena have posted an updated link and instructions on how to download and install the mod..
You can download the updated Shadow of the Tomb Raider Nude (Booty Edition) mod from Google Drive.
To make it work you will need a mod Kaldaien Special K mod.
It's likely that Crystal Dynamics will support DMCA as well, so you can download them as quickly as possible and save them before they're deleted...again.
Alternatively, you can also download the Booty Edition from PlayGround.Ru.
And if that doesn't work, you can try downloading the mod from mega.nz.
