FHeroes2 Mod Adds Everything the Original Was Missing to Heroes of Might and Magic 2

It is an open source implementation of the classic fantasy turn-based strategy game. The project actually recreates Heroes of Might and Magic 2 on a new, much improved engine, but it's not a standalone game as it needs source files to work.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2, those classic second Heroes, is one of the best turn-based strategy games out there. Of course, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was a real milestone in video games, so it's not surprising that modders devoted much more time to it. But now one team is hard at work improving the quality of the second part.
A project called FHeroes2 started about a year ago. His goal is to create the best possible look for the original Heroes 2 on modern computers. To do this, the game is transferred to another engine, where modders have already built in pumped AI and support for high resolutions. Fheroes2 provides full compatibility with modern PCs and operating systems. We can play in high definition (including widescreen), resize windows, or use much improved AI. The project also added new features. Fans of HoMM2 will be especially pleased with the possibility of automatic battles. This allows you to skip light fights. At the same time, we can always repeat each such encounter and manually take control of the units if we are not satisfied with the end result.
Fheroes2 also fixes several hundred technical bugs and fixes many flaws left in the game by the original developers.
Overall, FHeroes2 tries to keep the original game intact by simply adding all the features that are important to the modern gamer. The multiplayer game is currently limited to single-screen mode, but in the future the authors plan to add support for online play.
Instructions:
Unpack the archive. You will get several folders with different versions of the mod for 32- and 64-bit systems, as well as the SDL1 (for older systems) and SDL2 (for newer operating systems) versions. Choose the one that suits you and copy the contents of this folder to the main game folder. Then run ferroes2.exe.
The project requires the full version of the game. However, if you only want to test the modification, run "demo_windows.bat". is a script that will download the Heroes of Might and Magic 2 demo to your hard drive.
Note: in this archive you will find the Windows version of the project. However, on project website you can also download versions for other platforms, including Linux, Mac or PlayStation Vita.
