How to get to the ethereal biome in the “Labor of Love” Terraria update
Aether is a biome that was added to Terraria with the release of update 1.4.4, and players can find Shimmer (Flicker) in it. For the uninitiated, Shimmer, a new addition in the Labor of Love update, is a liquid that can transmute items, enemies, NPCs, and critters. This guide will help players access this unique fluid by detailing the location of Terraria's ethereal biome.
Aether biome location
The first step to finding an ethereal biome is to create a new world after updating to Terraria 1.4.4. Once the player boots into their new world, they must determine which side their jungle spawned on. Then you must find the Ocean on this side of the world and dig.
Specifically, players need to dig into the Caves that spawn just below the dungeon. You will know that you have reached the level of the Cave when you see that the rock in the background turns into a darker one, and an ethereal biome with a starry background appears inside it. While it is true that it may take some time for players to find the aether in the cave layer, flickerwhich is there will justify the effort.
This fluid can be very useful and players should spend some time experimenting with what it can do. However, some caution should be exercised when they are near the Shimmer, as hitting it will cause their characters to drop down until they reach a cave or the Underworld. This can be prevented by equipping the Chromatic Cloak, this trinket is crafted with Shimmer to transform the Astral Cloak.
It should be noted that Shimmer's pool in the ethereal biome is not limitless, though players don't have to worry too much about running out of it. This is because the Bottomless Glimmer Bucket can create an unlimited amount of liquid. However, this item cannot be crafted until the player defeats Moon Lord, making the ethereal biome the only source of Shimmer at the start of the game.
One last thing to mention is that Shimmer cannot perform all of his transformations on worlds where Moon Lord remains alive. As such, players who want to experience everything the liquid has to offer should plan on defeating this boss at some point.
