Intel May Prevent AMD From Crisis
Intel retains the lion's share of TSMC's 3nm lithography manufacturing capacity. As such, it could make things a little more difficult for AMD and Apple, who rely on external chip manufacturing.
A Chinese news website reveals TSMC's manufacturing plans with Intel taking the lion's share of 3nm technology. The American processor giant intends to outsource the production of two new processors and a graphics chip. Apple and AMD, which are heavily dependent on external manufacturing, will need to consider possible limits on the number of chips they can produce.
It is expected that the production of processors on the 3nm process will begin in the second quarter of 2022. Initially, Intel expects a wafer production capacity of 4000 wafers per month, and this number is expected to increase to 10 in the long term. Intel, which has its own factories (including wafer production lines), intends to simultaneously provide its production power to other companies. To do this, it was decided to build a new megafactory.
Intel processors continue to lead in popularity among desktop and laptop users, but are slowly losing ground to AMD. Perhaps the company sees an opportunity to win and retain as much of the market as possible by maximizing the supply of components. To this end, it intends to maintain its own production facilities using TSMC factories. It is important that in this way it can derail the plans of AMD, which expected an improvement in the situation in the component market in 2022.
