Baldur's Gate 3 Class Guide (Early Access)

guide

Baldur's Gate 3 is Larian's take on Dungeons & Dragons. This is the first Baldur's Gate game in over 15 years, and both PC RPGs and tabletop games have evolved a lot since Baldur's Gate 2. Larian uses D&D 5th Edition, first released in 2014, but you should expect a lot of liberties transition from manual to digital. However, some things don't change - there are real dice rolls, and character classes don't directly follow D&D rules.

Here's what we know about the classes you'll be able to choose from in Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access.

Baldur's Gate 3 Classes

Larian's preview of Baldur's Gate 3 revealed that his initial class selection is very similar to those found in the board game, but each class will also have at least two subclasses to choose from.

Here are the classes Larian has shown so far with their descriptions

  • Cleric - Clerics act as representatives of the gods they worship, wielding powerful divine magic for good or ill.
  • Fighter - Fighters have mastered the art of combat, wear armor like a second skin, and wield weapons with consummate skill.
  • Rangers - Rangers are unparalleled scouts and trackers, honing a deep connection to nature to hunt their favorite prey.
  • Rogue - Stealthy, skilled and deadly, the rogue's versatility allows him to prevail in almost any situation.
  • Warlock - Bound by their pact with an all-powerful patron, warlocks trade their allegiance for supernatural powers and unique magic.
  • Wizard - wizards master the arcane by specializing in individual schools of magic, honing ancient spells to modern heights.

More classes are expected to come out during Early Access, but these are the ones that will be available at the start. "All classes from 5e Player's Handbook will be included at launch" - сказал Run at AMA .

Subclasses of Baldur's Gate 3

Okay, those are the base classes. What about subclasses? In Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian heavily encouraged multiclassing, combining the skills of different classes to create a highly specialized character. Here in Early Access, you can dive deeper into the classic specialization with some unique D&D 5e subclasses:

  • Cleric – Realm of Life, Realm of Light, Realm of Deception
  • Fighter – Battlemaster, Dire Knight
  • Ranger - Hunter, Beastmaster
  • Rogue – Arcane deceiver, thief
  • Warlock - Devil, Great
  • Wizard – School of Evocation, School of Renunciation

In the same AMA above, Larian implied that all 5th edition subclasses and paths for each class will also be available in the final game. The ones mentioned above we have already seen.

If you would like to read the descriptions of each of these subclasses from the D&D Player's Handbook, here is a handy site .

What about multiclassing? This should be in the game too, but not in Early Access at launch. “The multiclassing rules will exactly match the 5th edition of DnD. When leveling up, characters will be able to continue with their current class or choose a new class if they meet the requirements,” Larian said.

In an early gameplay demo, the Baldur's Gate 3 character creator also showed a description of the "class stats" for some classes, such as the Ranger. This is separate from subclassing, but it's not clear at this point if each class will have one or more "features" and which ones. Here's the one Larian showed off in their February gameplay demo:

  • Ranger - Keeper of the Veil

In addition to classes, Baldur's Gate 3 lets you choose three more important character attributes that will determine your playthrough. You can choose race , origin и background , which will affect your story and how other characters in the game will react to you.
