Guide to the CRAB Costume in Subnautica: Below Zero. Where to Find All Fragments.
The CRAB suit is a very important tool for exploring the deepest parts of the sea in Subnautics: Below Zero..
Costume "CRAB" (Suit Autonomous Reactive Armored) (Mod. 3) (English PRAWN Suit (Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit) Mk III) is a walking vehicle with hydraulic limbs, designed specifically for deep sea operations, providing the player with protection while maintaining maximum mobility. While in an exosuit, you can explore the area, collect resources, fight huge monsters and be relatively safe.
Some information about the "CRAB" costume:
- Walks along the bottom, unlike other watercraft.
- It is powered by two interchangeable power cells or ion power cells that are located on the top of the exosuit.
- Built-in spotlights similar to those installed on the Moth bathyscaphe, however they cannot be turned off and do not consume energy.
- It has storage 6×4 (24 slots) at the back on top, which can be increased by 6x1 (6 slots) by installing the "Storage" upgrade. With four of these upgrades installed, the total storage capacity will be 6x8 (48 slots).
- Has two standard manipulator, with which you can pick up items, while items fall into the built-in storage of the exosuit. Also manipulators can strike. Left and right manipulators are activated by pressing и respectively. Manipulators can be replaced to perform different tasks. If a special manipulator is not installed, the standard one will be used.
- Has a built-in jetpack, which allows you to make long long jumps using the key SPACE. The backpack has its own indicator of the accumulation of jump force in percent. When the charge is exhausted, the support of the jump (rise) stops and the exosuit simply sinks to the bottom. At rest and when moving along the bottom, the charge for the jump is quickly restored; in free flight, the charge is restored more slowly. There is also a separate upgrade for the jetpack that increases the strength and duration of the jump.
- The player can dock it on the Cyclops or in the base's docking shaft (same as the Moth) and use it to explore deep and dangerous places. In the second part of the game, the CRAB suit can be transported in a special Sailor module. Transporting an exosuit with the Cyclops or the Sailor can significantly reduce travel time and increase the amount of resources extracted.
- In the second part of the game, the CRAB suit has a new feature - "Power Glide" (conditional translation, eng. power slide), which allows the exosuit, when a key is pressed, to SHIFT slide along the bottom at high speed. In flight when pressed SHIFT it will fly in the direction of view. Also, adds speed when using the hand - grab. Using this option consumes the charge of the jetpack.

Where to find fragments of the CRAB costume
Like most important items, tools, and vehicles in Subnautica: Below Zero, the CRAB costume requires fragments to be blueprinted. There are four costume fragments that can be found.
Once they are scanned, a blueprint of the vehicle will be obtained and can then be crafted with Lead, Plasteel Ingot, Power Cell and Enamel Glass.
Fragments can be found in the following biomes and locations:
- Mine “Koppa”
- Mercury II
- Station "Zero"
- Phi excavation site
The safest way to get the fragments is to sit in the MK1 Depth Module Chair. Coppa Mine is a separate location, and all four fragments for the CRAB costume in Subnautica: Below Zero are presented here.
Players will reach an open channel that leads down. It's also close to the docking bay on the island and not too far below the surface.
After descending into the channel, wait for the lava geyser to the northeast to clear and continue down past it. Do it again with the lava geyser to the east in the southeast. Although it is safe, it is a difficult path: below zero.
Keep walking past the geysers that block the path once they go dormant. Get to the prey site and just find the fragments of the shrimp suit. They may appear in different places.
Be sure to check right under the entrance to the Koppa mine, the middle of the track system and the platform at the end of the track system. These are the locations to search for Shrimp costume fragments in Subnautica: Below Zero.
Also, to obtain a drawing of the CRAB costume, you can study 2 types of fragments:
- big exosuit fragments can be found aboard the Aurora and in some of its wreckage (scanning each fragment completes the blueprint by 25%);
- fragments of the standard manipulator can also be found in some of its fragments (scanning each fragment performs a blueprint for 5%).

Miscellanea
- To create via console: spawn exosuit
- To get a snippet: spawn exosuit fragment
- From the update "ghost update» after the player exits the exosuit on land, he takes a "sitting" position (sometimes he does not squat on inclined surfaces and steps).
- When the power cells are completely depleted, the phrase of the suit will be pronounced in the voice of "Moth".
- If the suit is on the surface of lava, it will break very quickly.
- Previously, this costume was called "SHRIMP" in the Russian version, but was later renamed.
- To inspect the storage or modifications of the CRAB in the docking shaft, you just need to approach the exosuit from the left side and aim at the desired part of the hull.
- The game has posters depicting the "CRAB" costume.
- On PlayStation 4 jetpack Crab activated by button L1
Tips
- Although it is obvious that the CRAB propulsion gun is much stronger than the character version, if you get used to throwing objects with it, then the torpedo launcher looks useless, since the charges for it are limited and they constantly need to be updated. But the propulsion gun uses everything around you: stones, ore, creatures.
- If you do not want to lose the ability to collect items in the storage and do not want to choose between different modules, then take everything you need in the CRAB storage - later you can change the modules in the field (however, you should use the storage expansion, as there may not be enough space for your needs, which reduces the possibility of installing other modules).
- The hull strengthening module does not increase protection against aggressive creatures, but only against collisions with surfaces, and since the CRAB does not receive damage from collisions, it makes no sense to put this improvement on an exosuit.
- "CRAB" moves "forward diagonally" (that is, when holding W + A or W + D) is faster than just W.
- It is not recommended to use a torpedo launcher (The exception is especially large creatures that you can approach on this underwater vehicle).
- Using only a gripping hand and a drill, you can comfortably solve all problems and not be afraid of predators. Almost any predator can be grabbed with a grip and the second manipulator can kill or deal enough damage to make it run away. The exception is leviathans and guardians. But from them, using the same hand-capture, you can run away very quickly. To do this, cling not to the ledges, but directly to the bottom ten meters ahead of you. In this mode, the Crab is able to overtake the moth and is the undisputed champion in high-speed leaving the battlefield.
