Diablo 2 Resurrected Update 2.3: Description of all innovations

Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.3 is due out in a month, and the first patch notes show offline difficulty scaling, as well as other much-requested features coming to the game.

Blizzard has a big change in store for D2R. The game will soon feature a public test area (PTR) where players can test experimental patches before they hit the live servers, as well as significant improvements to the user interface (UI) and gameplay systems.

Two months after the game's launch, the developers directly addressed some of the biggest complaints from the Diablo community. Patch 2.3 will fix everything from keybinding features to core movement mechanics missing from the updated update.

The full patch notes for Diablo 2 Resurrected 2.3 will arrive shortly before its release in early December, and its content may have changed by the time it hits live servers. But here's an early look at everything we know so far.

Features Diablo 2 Resurrected modern '/ Players 8'

D2R will integrate the offline difficulty scaling from the original version. This will allow players to increase the difficulty of the gameplay to what it would be like if there were eight players in the group.

The higher the difficulty level, the harder it is to complete the dungeons and even better rewards to loot. Solo players no longer need to complete a full lobby to start hacking high level items.

After patch 2.3, the Resurrected settings will have a new slider from 1 to 8 that can be changed to scale the difficulty.

Keybindings for Quick Cast Skills

Snowstorm

Update 2.3 also adds quick spell casting capabilities and more keybinding options to Diablo 2 like never before.

The developers have carefully added an Active Skill Bindings panel and a Quick Cast Skill option just in case it takes too much away from the original D2R experience.

But after player feedback in support of these features, Blizzard is going to release them in the next patch.

Diablo 2 Resurrected PTR

Blizzard is also planning to release a D2R PTR that will solve the game's biggest problems during the patch.

The PTR will allow players to register and try out builds of the game to find any bugs or major imbalances that Blizzard may have missed.

D2R has had issues with game crashes or server issues since release, and a PTR would have helped catch those issues sooner.

While the test area may release at a different time than the D2R 2.3 update, Blizzard plans to release both of them in the coming weeks.

Diablo 2 Resurrected Update Description for Early Update 2.3

Offline difficulty scaling ("/players 8")

  • For solo offline players looking to increase the difficulty of the game - as well as the rewards - to eight players, your wish has come true.
  • To use this feature, players simply need to open the settings menu, go to the Game Settings tab, then Offline Mode, and adjust the Offline Difficulty Scaling slider.
  • New monsters will spawn with varying HP and reward players with greatly increased experience and loot drop rates when defeated.
  • In offline single player, the default player setting is "1", so you can scale the difficulty anywhere between 1 and 8.
  • Just like in Diablo II Classic, you'll have to start a new game session to set your desired difficulty using the slider.

Keyboard and Mouse Quick Cast

  • When we added controller support to Diablo II: Resurrected, players immediately got access to 12 buttons.
  • When the player presses any of the face buttons or triggers they have assigned abilities, they will instantly use them.

We've seen a lot of feedback from the community asking us to use this feature for keyboard and mouse play as well. We initially avoided this approach because we were afraid it would deviate too far from the original experience, but the community is looking forward to it so we're committed to delivering.

  • Players can now choose to use the Active Skill Bindings panel.
  • This will show an extra bar above the standard HUD at the bottom of the screen.
  • Players can map up to 16 skills (although the tooltip suggests F1 - F8) with this extra panel.
  • If the Quick Cast Skills option is active, pressing these buttons will instantly cast abilities instead of simply remapping the right or left mouse button.

Players will be able to enable the "Quick Cast Skills" option for skill-bound actions to their current mouse location, as well as enable "Display Active Skill Bindings" to display the current skill bar on their HUD screen. Now, at the discretion of the player, he can adapt his experience to his game.

Accessibility and graphic enhancements

Visual UI improvements

  • Added an indicator to show which players are disabled or ignored.
  • Character level and expansion type will now be displayed on the lobby screen.
  • We've also improved the target channel change when sending a chat message to be more clear and understandable.
  • Players will now be able to see the real names of Battle.net friends on their friend lists.

Gameplay improvements

  • We've added a "miss" text indicator to PvP battles.
  • Players who have enabled missing text in their options will now be able to see when their character's attacks are not hitting an enemy in PvE and PvP.
  • Throw can again be tied to a key even if the player has nothing to throw
  • A new keybinding called "Force Move" has been added.
    • When used, the player character will automatically move to the current mouse location.

Sound enhancements

  • Players using a controller on PC or Console will now hear audio cues when navigating through the available options in the Options menu.
  • Players will also be able to hear audio prompts when automatically filling the potion on their character's belt.

Graphical improvements

  • PC players with Nvidia graphics cards that are compatible with Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology will now be able to enable DLSS in the graphics settings menu.
    • Improve graphics quality and resolution while maintaining higher GPU performance

PTR and future updates

In the coming weeks, Diablo II: Resurrected will launch its first-ever Public Test Area (PTR), a special area where we can test balance, fix bugs, and other improvements we're making to the game. We invite all of you to get involved as you will have the opportunity to play a critical role in testing features and developing the experience for all players. As we get closer, we'll share more details on how you can access the PTR and try out these changes.

This PTR will focus on fixing database issues and stabilizing our online environment. Once we're sure these fixes are in place, we'll share more details about ranked play and even more new changes coming to Diablo II: Resurrected.

Our community continues to play an important role in improving this game, and for that we want to thank you. As we continue to update and improve the game, please continue to share your feedback with us - your collaboration is key to creating an incredible Diablo II: Resurrected experience that we will all cherish for years to come.
