Is Apex Legends really a Fortnite killer? The reaction of the CEO of Epic Games.

After launching in February 2019, Apex Legends has started to gain momentum, but Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney still isn't worried about the game's impact on Fortnite.
Apex Legends, launched in February out of nowhere and quickly gained millions of players, much faster than other battle royale games before. In just the first month alone, he reached 50 million players and broke the Twitch viewership record, proving he has the residual power to compete and maybe even topple. Fortnite. Despite all this, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney doesn't seem all that concerned about Apex Legends when it comes to possibly overtaking Fortnite.
In the interview Venture Beat Sweeney confirms that Fortnite hit an all-time peak of players when Apex Legends was already out and noted that he hasn't seen a visible drop in Fortnite players.
“We haven’t experienced a downturn in Fortnite since the release of Apex,” Sweeney told Venture Beat. “We have not seen a visible cut in Fortnite. It's funny. The only other consistently popular game like Fortnite that you can see is FIFA.”
Sweeney credits Apex Legends for refreshing the genre and adding a unique spin to the battle formula and improving it. He also noted that Fortnite matches his height.
“We are very close to hitting 250 million Fortnite players,” Sweeney said. "Since the release of Apex Legends, we have received Apex Legends from Fortnite players, which is amazing."
Apex Legends introduced a ping system that allowed players to mark weapons and items on the map as found by their teammates. Soon after, Fortnite implemented a similar system into their game, which could be an example of what Sweeney was talking about when he said that Apex had developed the battle royale formula. The first Battle Pass recently launched in Apex Legends will be a good indication of how Apex will compete with Fortnite in the future.
Many players were blown away by Respawn's Apex Legends Battle Pass offering and its comparison to Fortnite.

Respawn mentioned that this Battle Pass should be seen as a starting point for players to get a healthy collection of cosmetics, and future Battle Passes could be very different.
