The next, 152 champion of Serafina was announced, as well as her abilities in League of Legends were revealed.
After months of leaks, hints, and unique Twitter profile updates "belonging" to the upcoming character, Riot has finally taken a comprehensive look at the next contender to take on in their popular MOBA.
“Serafina, Dreamy Singer, is able to create music from the sounds of the souls around her. Learn more about her wonderful acoustic synesthesia and melodic skills.”
On top of everything else, Serafina will be the new mage in the League that will bring the most value when teams are grouped together. As such, her abilities and passives will have a few new components to keep in mind.
Seraphina release date in League of Legends
After months of speculation, players will finally be able to test the new champion very soon to see if her musical talents can change the Rift's tune.
Serafina is set to enter the Rift in the Public Beta Environment (PBE) on October 13th and will officially be live on October 29th shortly thereafter.
Seraphina's abilities
Stage Charm (Passive Skill)
Every third Seraphina's basic skill is echoed and automatically triggers a second time. Additionally, if Serafina casts a skill near an ally, she creates a note. Each note increases Seraphina's attack range, and when using auto-attacks, the note is spent on additional magic damage.
High note [Q]
Serafina unleashes a pure note, dealing magic damage based on the target's missing health.
Surround [W]
Serafina sings a song that speeds up her and nearby allies, and also casts a shield. If Serafina is already shielded, she heals allies. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the number of allies nearby.
Percussive rhythm [E]
Serafina unleashes a powerful sonic wave, dealing magic damage to enemies in a line and slowing them down. It immobilizes slowed enemies and stuns immobilized ones.
Encore [R]
Serafina begins her performance by unleashing a wave that enchants enemies and deals magic damage. All affected champions (including allies) become part of the performance, increasing skill range and granting allies the maximum number of notes.
Musical gameplay of Seraphina
Seraphine was designed to be the opposite of all the hate and toxicity Riot saw in League player matches. “When I was working on Seraphina, I was sure that League players hated each other,” recalls Jivun Jag Sidhu, senior game designer. – On the Internet, everyone was just writing about how their allies infuriate them, as if playing in a team is some kind of terrible torture. I wanted Seraphine's gameplay to address this issue. So that everyone can play for Serafina - or with her - and remember that team games, especially with friends, are fun and exciting.”
Because of this, the more players group up and work as a unit, the more mileage they will extract from the Support Mage's set of moves.
“The Serafina Pack encourages players to band together around Serafina and play together… And it only gets better as more people join her circle,” said Riot writer Erica “Kashmeer” Haas.
With the amount of shields and heals she can cast, she's the perfect compliment for teams looking for some serious synergy.
All in all, Seraphina can potentially be a really aggressive support when she shows up in a fight. But her value increases the more teammates approach her.
Explanation of the legends of Serafina
So, there is only one concept character named "Seraphina". But there's a version of the character arriving in the Rift who hails from Piltover, and there's also the alternate universe K/DA Seraphina that people learn more about via her Twitter from regular updates and selfies.
As for the game's story, she can hear the souls inside the crystals that power Hextech's creations.
“Few people in Piltover know that Hextech Crystals are home to the souls of brackerns—huge scorpions to which Skarner belongs,” says writer Daniel Istogaiden Cootes. “These creatures have suffered a sad fate, and Serafina is the only one who hears. The song is of great importance in the culture of the bruckerns, and even their crystal hearts continue to sing. Their song resonates in a special way in Serafina's soul, and in the process she learns to control her gift.”
Serafina had spent her entire life in Piltover and Zaun listening to the voices of humans and Bracken. She cannot free the souls locked in crystals, but she deeply empathizes with them, as well as with the inhabitants of both cities.
With the help of music, Serafina gets to know others and gives them bright emotions. In an endless stream of sounds, she distinguishes other people's songs - joyful and sad. In her soul, they are formed into something deep, beautiful and understandable, and Serafina responds to the world with her own song.
